A New Pellet Mill Magazine Has Been LaunchedThe biomass magazine has launched a new magazine specifically focused on pellet mills and the process of making pellets. This clearly shows how important the process of pellet compression has become to the biomass industry. One of the important reasons pellet production has become so popular is because it makes biomass transportation much more cost effective. Transporting loose biomass is extremely expensive. The pellet mill can compress the biomass materials such as wood to a typical compression ratio of 6:1. Therefore in simple terms it takes one truck to transport the same amount of loose biomass as 6 trucks. As the price of diesel continues to rise, such reductions make a significant difference even over relatively short distances. Pellet plants come in all different sizes. For instance the video below shows a small scale pellet mill and plant which is been used in this instance to produce wood pellets for domestic fuel customers, please watch.
The equipment included in the pellet plant varies depending on the market and the raw material. For instance in some cases we install packaging solutions for small 15kg bags for residential customers. In other cases we will create solutions that put the wood pellets in silos or dumpy bags for industrial users. Other equipment is dictated by the raw material, with the whole plant focused around the pellet mill or a series of pellet mills all working together. For instance it the raw material is sawdust only a hammer mill is required for size reduction. However if the material is wood chips or shavings then we would install a chipper/shredder system before the hammer mill. To learn more about the complete process please click below. |
