Keeping Up To Date With Alternative Energy NewsThe renewable and alternative energy sector are rapidly growing industries, so what news is there to report on the growth of alternative energy in the form of wood pellets and biomass pellets? One of the fastest growing sectors currently form pellet fuels is the use of fuel pellets to generate electricity in coal power stations. Basically coal power stations need to reduce their carbon emissions and therefore are experimenting with the idea of burning wood and various other biomass pellets along with coal. While this is one way to use fuel pellets to generate electricity, the problem with most power stations is that they are not very efficient, and waste much of the energy produced. Though wood and biomass pellets can be a 'green' option when used properly, just using them to replace coal in outdated facilities is not a practical long term answer. Here at PelHeat we support a more decentralised approach to heat and power generation such as the pellet boiler below. One of the most efficient ways to use wood and biomass pellets for heat and power is to develop small scale CHP units. Basically a wood pellet stove or boiler which also has the ability to turn some of the heat generated into power. This can be done through the use of solutions such as the cyclone WHE engine, which is a closed loop steam engine which can develop 10Kw's of electricity, which is more than ample for most homes. Any additional power generated could be sent into the national grid and dispersed where needed. This would mean there is a direct incentive for the user to use less energy, as they would be rewarded for sending energy. Please click below to watch our small pellet machine in action producing high quality wood pellets from oak sawdust. We also offer highly automated pellet plants for biomass. |
