Biomass Fuel PelletsFuel pellets are generally only known as wood pellets, however there are huge number of biomass materials which can be processed into biomass fuel pellets. Now, it is true that wood pellets generally produce fuel pellets with the lowest ash contents, however the pellet fuel market cannot solely depend on wood as the source of raw material, and there simply isn't a sufficient supply to meet future demand. Also there is a general consensus by expects that there needs to be a greater emphasis on small scale local pellet production. However, this also means only certain wood waste is available in certain areas, and also in some cases there may not be any wood waste, therefore other materials need to be used. Below is a video of a biomass pellet boiler burning a wide collection of biomass fuel pellets. So what other potential biomass materials can be used for fuel pellets? Well, there is literally hundreds of potential biomass materials which can be used for fuel pellets. Generally the most logical approach is to use which every biomass materials are available locally. For example if there is a large agricultural farming industry, there will be a lot of waste and surplus materials. For instance even with keeping animals in doors during the winter months, a lot of waste is generated. This can be processed into pellets, and then used to heat chicken and pig sheds during the winter, which today are generally heated via gas which is extremely expensive. One of the best approaches is to look at the waste generated from food production, and use that material. If we can produce food and fuel from one crop without food and fuel competing, it will reduce the cost of both food and fuel. |
