Biomass Fuel Pellets Could Replace Wood Pellets? While wood pellets currently dominate the pellet fuel domestic market, there is only so much useable wood available. Therefore the future of the pellet fuel market has to embrace the use of a wide range of materials such as hemp. Many different biomass materials can be processed into fuel pellets. A good example is the waste from food crops such as straw. Straw in pellet form produces a similar heat value to wood pellets, and waste straw is an abundant material. A good practice would be to produce fuel pellets from the straw, and then use the ash from burning those pellets on the land as a soil conditioner. Another example of biomass fuel pellets from agricultural residues would be from corn cobs and corn stalks. Some ethanol is produced from the corn its self. However this is not ethically the right thing to, as food should always be used as food where possible. However the corn stalks and cobs are not food and have little or no use. Therefore these materials could be compressed into fuel pellets. By using these wastes to produce a fuel dramatically increases the profitability of growing the food crop. There are many other examples of biomass fuel pellets, please see below. At PelHeat we encourage the use of biomass pellet production on all scales from the home to the factory. We provide educate on how the pellet mill operates and which equipment is best based on the scale and the raw material. We also provide a beginners guide to making pellets. This guide will teach you the different designs of pellet mill and their benefits and negatives. To learn more about pellets and pellet mill please click the link below.
