Making Biomass Heat From Pellet Machine ProductsCapturing heat from biomass has been a practice mankind has been carrying out for thousands of years. The simple log fire is a from of biomass heat, used for warmth and for cooking. Using biomass for heat in the 20th century never really evolved, as fossil fuel alternatives took control of the market. Fossil fuel heating solutions were low maintenance, highly efficient and at the time affordable. Other than the obvious complications with fossil fuels and there carbon emissions, there are other issues with our reliance on these resources to heat our homes and cook our food. The first issue is supply. Fossil fuels in the form of oil and gas are not widely distributed. A few areas of land and sea, hold the majority of the resources which we are practically able to reach. Within the free market, a product or service is worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it. Therefore it is very easy for the oil industry to initiate price rises. The other key issue is there simply isn't enough of these resources to meet growing global demand. Biomass Pellets and Wood Pellet Heating To make biomass a more practical and appealing heat option, requires the raw biomass fuel source to be compressed into pellets. Through compression and moisture reduction the biomass is converted into a more efficient fuel and a fuel which is easier to deal with. Also, as all biomass fuel pellets are the same shape and size, the same pellet burner depending on the burn pot design can use a wide range of biomass resources automatically. This is important, because we cannot simply rely on one biomass resource for our energy needs. Woody biomass is part of the solution, but many of the woody biomass resources simply grow too slowly to replace the resources at the rate of consumption. Hemp is a good biomass energy crop. Biomass Boilers and Biomass Stoves Wood log burning biomass boilers and stoves have been used as supplementary heat source for some home owners, however very rarely relied on as the main heat source. The simple reason is work load and poor efficiency. Loading the fire at an acceptable rate with logs would just take up too much time. Pellet burners can feed them selves automatically with fuel pellets, with one full hopper load lasting at least a day. Making Wood Pellets and Biomass Pellet To produce quality pellet fuels, requires the correct equipment and the correct raw materials. The three key pieces of equipment are the hammer mill, dryer and pellet mill. Through this equipment the key processes are size reduction, moisture reduction and particle compression into pellet form. To produce a quality pellet from any raw material requires the correct particle size, correct moisture content and correct temperature. Click below to see our pellet machine. |
