Biomass Products

Biomass is very general term to describe a wide range of organic resources which can processed and used for energy production. Biomass products include the fuels, and the systems in which these fuels can be used in. So for instance, biomass fuel products include pellets, briquettes, and liquid and gaseous fuels. The other biomass products are the combustion systems in which the biomass fuel products are used. Therefore for pellets this includes pellet stoves and boilers. For briquettes this can be basic log stove and open fires or more advanced log based combustion systems. The biomass liquid and gaseous products can be used internal combustion engines for transportation fuels and to run generators to produce electricity. Therefore it is clear that there is a wide variety of biomass products which can meet much of our energy demands

Biomass Pellets and Wood Pellet Fuels

One of the biomass products mentioned, are biomass pellets, one of the most popular been wood pellet fuels. Wood pellet fuels have actually existed since the 1970's, however it is only within the last decade or so that wood pellet fuel products have been taken seriously as a practical energy alternative to oil and gas based heating systems. Wood pellet fuels are currently made for the waste from timber processing. After the tree has been processed into beams, the sawdust is then collected and processed into pellet fuel. As the timber is devoid of bark and generally from only certain types of trees, the pellets produced have a very low ash content. Therefore these fuel pellet products are referred to as premium pellet fuels.

Biomass Furnace and Biomass Stoves

The other side of biomass products are the combustion systems in which the biomass fuel products are used. There are various different forms of biomass furnaces. These range from log stoves and boilers, to woodchip systems and even straw bale burners. These systems however in general lack the modern efficiencies required and are also quite high maintenance. Here is where biomass pellet boilers are products which can fit well within the modern lifestyle of a low maintenance but highly efficient heating unit.

Biomass pellet fuel stoves and boilers come in range of sizes and heat outputs. Even a small pellet stove can generate a substantial amount of heat to heat several rooms within the property. Generally pellet stoves just generate hot air, and can be used to heat the entire property with a good ventilation system. However some pellet stove products also have a built in back boiler. This means that the stove can provide heat to the main living space and also connect up the existing central heating system to providing heating to the rest of the property via existing radiators.

Biomass Wood Pellet Fuel Production

The products of biomass and wood pellet fuel products is a growing industry, and one that can bring substantial jobs to the local community. Jobs can be created in the collection of local biomass and wood resources. Jobs can then also be created in upgrading the biomass into high quality fuel pellets. Finally jobs can be created in distributing the finished fuel pellets.
