Cost of Wood PelletsOver the last decade wood pellets have seen impressive growth. There are several reasons for the rise of the wood pellets market. One of the reasons many consumers moved from oil or gas heating systems in the cost of those fuels. Wood pellets offer a significant cost advantage over these fuels, while still providing a convenient, modern and efficient form of heating. The price rises of oil and gas are set to continue. The reasons for this are limited supply, high and growing demand and private control of the supply. Due to the free market, a resource is worth what you can get for it. The oil companies know this, and if they feel the price of oil is dropping, they limit supply to pump up prices. As the global population continues to increase at an accelerated rate, the cost of oil and gas will continue to cost more and become less affordable as a home or business heating solution. Wood Pellets Fuel and Pellet Fuel Grades The cost of wood pellets does also change. This change can be due to supply and demand, fuel grades and the cost of electricity. As you would expect, the cost of wood pellets does fluctuate depending on current demand. A basic example of this means that wood pellets are cheaper in the summer months compared to the winter months during the heating season. Therefore this means consumers can make a significant cost advantage by ordering their pellets early during summer, ready for the up coming heating season. With the right wood supplier, you can secure the lower cost, and yet they will delivery the fuel several months later. This means you don't have to store the pellets for several months before you need them. Other changes which effect the cost of wood pellets is the cost of electricity. Wood pellets production is an energy intensive process. Therefore an increase in the cost of electricity will also influence the cost of finished wood pellets. Obliviously the price of electricity is also influenced by the cost of oil. Wood Pellets Price and The Cost of Fuel Finally, the other factor which effects the cost of wood pellets is the the grade of wood pellet fuel, and the resources which were used to produce the fuel. Premium grade pellets made from very selective wood resources demand the top prices and will cost the consumers more but do require less maintenance. Lower, or industrial grades of wood pellets will cost the consumer less, however more maintenance will be required. There are other types of biomass fuel pellet which could reduce the consumers heating costs even further. These biomass fuel pellets could be made from straws and grasses, and other energy crops for example hemp. These resources are cheaper to produce and they are also cheaper to compress into pellet form. Therefore in general the cost of these pellet fuels to the end consumer is less, however not all consumers can use the pellets due to ash content. Wood Pellet Manufacturing and Facts The process of wood pellets production requires several pieces of equipment, and a good understanding of the principles involved or production costs will increase and pellet quality will drop. The material must be dry, ready for the pellet mill to compress. |
