Don't Pick The Wrong Pellet Mill For Your MaterialBefore you even consider purchasing a pellet mill you need to know the qualities of your raw material, and your intended target market. For instance do you want to produce pellets fuel fuel, feed, bedding or perhaps cooking. All of these difference uses require different raw materials and pellets of different densities. For instance for a fuel pellet you want as higher density as possible really. However for animal feed this is not the case. If animal feed pellets are too hard, the animals will not want to eat the food. However if the pellets are too soft they will not transport properly, and this will lead to waste. Different pellet mills are designed to produce pellets of different densities. This can however be changed in most instances with a change of die.
However the speed of rotation of the pellet mill die is important, and is a feature of the pellet mill. When it comes to the die what features do you require? First the diameter of the pellet mill die needs to be correct, get this wrong and you may miss the requirements of your target audience. For instance with fuel pellets you want a 6mm diameter, you can produce 8mm for some boilers and industrial users can use 10mm or even 12mm. However 6mm is generally the best practice as then you have a larger potential customer base, as the pellets could be used in small wood pellet stoves all the way up to large scale industrial boilers. Animal feeds are made in a range of diameters, however can go much smaller than fuel pellets for example 3mm pellets are common. The right die for each material depends on not only the diameter of the holes but the angle of countersink, the length of the die and the relief on the exit of the hole. |
