Wood Pellets Demand

Using wood pellets for heat is definitely nothing new. For over a decade now wood pellets have been used widely within Europe and some parts of the US as an alternative to heating oil and gas.

Many people are now aware of the domestic market for wood pellets, but the industrial sector is also growing rapidly. For instance the US currently exports most the of the wood pellets they produce over to Europe to be burnt via co-combustion with coal in power plants. The idea is to reduce the carbon emissions of the power plants. However, this idea does need to be looked at to measure if there is a sustainable source of wood to meet the demand. Some power plants are burning pellets produced from waste agricultural residues, for instance straw. However straw brings its own challenges as its much more corrosive than wood pellets and also generates more ash and clinker formations. At PelHeat, we have been involved in the pellet market since 2006. It started in the same way most people get interested in pellets as an alternative to using heating oil or gas. However we do not just focus on the use of wood pellets, we have tried many different materials in our pellet boiler. One of the best alternatives to wood pellets for example are hemp pellets. The obstacles to growing hemp make it difficult for a hemp fuel pellet market to grow. however one day this maybe possible. Producing pellets is a technical process which we have learnt over many years. We have produced a free beginners guide to making pellets which we hope you take advantage of. You can enter your details to receive the free guide on the next page where you can also watch a sample of our videos. Our small scale pellet plants are made here in the UK but are used all around the world to produce feed and fuel pellets. Please click below for videos.
