Hemp Biomass Pellet Fuels Are The Future

Wood pellets currently dominate the pellet fuels market for both the domestic sector and the industrial sector. However this will not continue.

This will have to change at some point, as there simply isn't enough wood resources to keep up with market demand without actually cutting down trees to produce pellets. Established tree's should not be used for pellet production, unless the tree's have issues with disease. Pellets are meant to offer a green alternative to fossil fuels, and not increase deforestation. As wood pellets will not be able to keep up with market demand, we need to look to alternatives such as hemp. Various biomass materials can be processed into pellet fuels, however hemp offers one of the best options. Hemp has a very short growing cycle, and can be simply grown from seed unlike other biomass crops like miscanthus that have to be grown from rhizomes. Growing from rhizomes can be very expensive and it also means once the rhizomes are in place, it is not possible to grow a different crop in the future without removing them. Hemp can be grown from seed and harvested with just 3 months. Also hemp yields are some of the most impressive. However one of the most important features are that hemp pellets are no more corrosive and produce no more ash than standard grade wood pellets. Most biomass fuel pellets produce more ash and corrosion. Please watch the video below. At PelHeat we help with teaching people how pellets are made the equipment used. We also help with setting up small and large complete pellet plants or individual pellet mills. When processing hemp luckily no drying equipment is required which can be around a third of the cost of the whole pellet plant. Also drying uses up a proportion of your raw material.
