Is There A Market For Your Pelleted Product?

Each day we receive inquires about making pellets from lots of different materials, not just wood. In some cases its dealing with waste, in other cases its about processing various biomass fuel crops such as miscanthus into fuel pellets. But is there always a market there?

All of these materials can be processed in the pellet mill. However the real question is what is the market for these pellets? In some cases there is no intended market, its just simply a case of reducing costs. For instance with regards to some waste products, they cannot be handled in a loose dusty form due to health and safety issues. Therefore compression into pellets means this material can be moved off site and disposed of safely, hopefully into some form of recycling process. In other cases with waste its about reducing transportation costs. Low density wastes are very expensive to transport. Therefore the cost of pelleting is more than recovered due to the fact roughly 6 times more waste can be put on the back of a truck compared to before. One of the more difficult questions to answer is about new types of pellets entering the fuel pellet market. The reasons for this is it is very unlikely that materials made from various biomass materials will have a comparable ash content and combustion qualities to premium wood pellets. Therefore they will not pass the current accredited standards for fuel pellets, due to the fact the focus is currently only on wood pellets for fuel. Therefore because they will not be an accredited fuel it can be difficult to enter the market. This case is proven if you go to see most of the pellet stove and boilers manufacturers. In most cases they will tell you that if anything other than an accredited wood pellet is used in their system it will void the warranty. Please click below.
