Pellet Plant

A pellet plants is a compilation of various pellet production equipment in a continuous process. A pellet plant is designed to deal with a specific raw material, based on its particle size and moisture content. The chosen size reduction equipment will change depending on if the raw material is logs, wood chips, straws grasses or another more specific raw material. To process logs into pellets, the pellet plant will first require a chipper and then the chips with sent to a hammer mill for final particle size reduction. For wood chips, these can generally be loaded directly into the hammer mill. To process straws and grasses, a tub grinder is normally used before the hammer mill. The tub grinder will reduce the straw and grass into a

more manageable size for the hammer mill.

 

Once the raw material have been reduced to a suitable size, a drier is normally included in the pellet plant to reduce moisture to the required level. The two main types of dryer used are either a flash drier of rotary drum drier. A flash drier is also known as a pipe dryer or air current dryer. It features a very low resonance time in the hot air, so is therefore only suitable to dryer fairly dry raw material which only require around 10% moisture removed. The rotary dryer is more suitable for raw materials which require more moisture removed, and for large volumes of woody biomass material.

Wood Pellet Mill Plant And Plant Details

Feed pellet plants have been common place for over a hundred years, however there are now more wood pellet and biomass pellet plants starting up. The biomass fuels market is growing every year, and this is sent to continue for a long time to come due to the carbon emission targets set by most developed countries. The equipment used in a wood pellet plant does vary compared to a feed pellet plant. Processing wood is a more energy intensive operation, and it also places more load and strain on the equipment. Therefore various reinforced modifications have to be made to the hammer mills and wood pellet mills.

Pellets Stove and Wood Pellet Furnaces

The most common grade of pellet fuel produced at pellet plants for pellet stoves and furnaces are premium grade wood pellets. Premium grade pellets produce the least ash of any pellet fuel, and therefore demand the highest prices. All pellets stoves can burn premium grade pellets, however there is growing number of pellet plant owners producing lower grades of wood pellets. Lower grade wood pellets can utilize more biomass resources and are cheaper to produce. However many pellet stoves cannot utilize these pellets efficiently due to the increase amount of ash.
