Renewable Energy

So what is renewable energy, and what isn't. Fossil fuels, for example oil and gas are not forms of renewable energy. For any fuel to be regarded as renewable the rate of consumption must be comparable to rate of replacement. Oil and gas take thousands of years through heat and pressure under the earth to form. Our rate of use of oil and gas far out weighs the rate of natural replacement, therefore they are none renewable forms of energy.

Renewable Energy Sources

There are various forms of renewable energies, these include wind, solar, wave and several others. At PelHeat our focus is on biomass as a renewable energy source. Biomass is any recently dead organic material which can be used as a fuel source. This includes several purpose grown fuel crops, but also many resources today which are regarded as wastes. A lot of virgin wood waste, from tree surgery for example is still sent to landfill. In the landfill the wood will decade and produce methane, a gas which is a key cause of climate change. This virgin wood waste however is an ideal renewable energy resource. Through basic processing the wood chips can be upgraded into high value wood pellets. These wood pellets can be used in direct combustion or used to develop synthesis gas through gasification. Below is a video of our boiler at PelHeat burning a collection of pellets, including some wood chip pellets.

Renewable Energy Resources

Wood is just one form of a biomass renewable energy. There are purpose grown fuel crops such as miscanthus, reed canary grass, switchgrass and hemp. These crops have high yields with low fertilizer inputs. However with the exception of hemp, the other crops are none food crops. However waste agricultural residues are also an ideal renewable energy resource as both food and fuel can be sourced from one crop.

Biomass Pellet Production Guide

One of the simplest and lowest energy input ways to convert biomass into a efficient fuel source, is to upgrade into biomass pellets. At PelHeat we develop small scale mobile pellet machines, to process various forms of biomass as you can see to the left.

PelHeat Wood Pellet Production Guide

At PelHeat we have many years of experience in pellet production, and we provide a pellet production consultation service. The PelHeat guide download will show you how to make wood and other fuel pellets.

The PelHeat Wood Pellet Production Guide provides an introduction to how biomass pellets and wood pellets are produced. The guide covers how a pellet mill,

pellet press and pellet machine operate to manufacture wood fuel pellets. Several factors influence the quality of pellet fuel and renewable energy
