Small Pellet Mill Retailers, Can You Trust Them?

Before we had our own range of products including our small pellet mill (The Mini Pellet Mill) back in 2006 we were just like anyone else. We were looking for a small machine that could produce pellets. Through browsing the internet we came across many websites selling pellet presses. To look back knowing what we now know, the lack of information on the actual process of making pellets is astounding. Due to this lack of information, there was very little information to make a decision with to what products to purchase. The information from retailers and manufactures was pretty straight forward. They simply stated as long as the material was dry and had been run through a hammer mill even the small pellet mills could produce wood pellets. The productivity figures also were impressive, several hundred kilos/lbs per hour. Just like many others you only really learn the truth after purchase and through the experience of owning one of these small pellet mills which are mass produced in China. Luckily we purchased the machine directly from the manufacture in China. If we had purchased the same pellet mill from one of their retailers we would have been paying a 200% mark up. Now business is business, but a usual mark up is 30%, and that includes some form of service. The problem with who you can trust is literally anyone can become a retailer of these small pellet machines, the Chinese manufactures are not bothered if you have ever used a pellet mill. This means most of the retailers have no experience and simply state the details the manufactures provide, which are overestimated and false in the case of the machines producing wood pellets.
