Having a swimming pool is simply a great asset, you can relax, exercise and its also an excellent place to hold social events such as parties. Owning a pool certainly has a lot of benefits, but it does also come with its responsibilities. No one wants to use a cold and dirty pool, so what do you have to do to keep it in good condition. Well, one of the best solutions is to use a pool cover, or more specifically to answer both issues a solar pool cover. A cover will be retractable, therefore rolled out over the surface of the pool when not in use and then rolled back when you want to use it. The cover can stop debris entering the pool such as leaves and other material, from mowing the lawn for example. A standard cover will also provide some insulation value to try and keep heat in the pool, however in reality they simply don't work that well. A solar pool cover is different, it is made from clear as apposed to colour plastic and also has a fabrication similar to that of bubble wrap, just on a much larger scale. The large bubbles are filled with air, creating a highly insulated blanket for the pool. As the cover is clear it allows the sunlight to pass through the cover and into the pool water. The bubbles within the cover then stop that heat from escaping and over time raises the temperature of the pool to a nice warm temperature. This can provide a substantial amount of heat into the pool, which can save substantial amounts of money on oil or gas heating. However a solar water heater can provide even more heat into the pool.

Using a Solar Pool Cover and Sun Heater

A solar water heater can capture even more solar energy within a smaller volume of space. Using a solar pool cover as well will help to keep this heat in the water as heating such a large volume of water does take time, but the two together can do the job.

A Homemade Solar Water Heater Video

One of the simplest solar water heater designs to produce is the passive solar water heater, as shown in the video below. The video states how the unit is made and connected to where the hot water is required.

The Parts Need To Build A Solar Heater

The parts to construct a passive solar water heater are very inexpensive and available in all local hardware stores. Using standard parts, and basic construction.

Is It Realistic To Build Your Own Heater

Put simply, yes it is realistic to build your solar water heater to provide your pool with all the heat you will need. Even someone with only a basic knowledge and experience of DIY can build their own pool heater unit.
