The Pellets You Produce And What The Pellet Stove Can UseWe can help with information and equipment to make pellets just for personal consumption or to be sold to other consumers. However you first must have a clear understanding of who your market is, what they can burn and would they want to burn your pellets? If you intend to produce anything other than a premium wood pellet, currently you are going to have to do a bit more market research. Other grades and types of wood and biomass fuel pellets will produce more ash, and potentially other complication. You need to find out if your potential market owns pellet stoves which can use this pellets. Sometimes if you are producing other grades of fuel pellets it is easier to target customers who own standard log stoves and boilers. Your pellets would provide more heat than logs and with less maintenance. A simple pellet basket can be used in the log stove or boiler to hold the pellets. For your potential customers who own pellet stoves why would they burn your pellets over others? First you can got to be significantly cheaper than premium grade pellets. If inform the consumer that your pellets will produce a similar heat value to premium wood pellets but produce just a bit more ash for a lower price, this should get the consumers attention. You should be able to still make a profit while undercutting premium grade pellets due to the reduced transportation you require by selling to the local market. This should also be the main focus of your marketing efforts. Heavily promote the fact that your pellets are locally made, produce local jobs and general local tax revenue. If you can produce a competitively priced local product consumers will be interested. Pellet stoves in general are becoming more flexible, and in the future most will be able to burn a wider range of fuel pellets. However for the minute, most are quite limited to using just top grade wood pellets. However as stated above don't ignore the log stove owners. These currently are the largest customer base of solid fuel users. |
