Using Biomass WasteFor FuelWhen it comes to talking about pellets and pellet fuel, the only thing most people talk about is wood pellets. In fact I can be more specific, they only talk about premium wood pellets. However, focusing purely on premium wood pellets is really missing the point and the opportunity that biomass really brings to the pellet fuel market. For instance, the materials used to produce premium wood pellets is a very small part of the biomass resources and only really comes from timber processing. For instance premium wood pellets are often produced from oak sawdust. Now, anyone who suggests cutting down an oak tree for making pellets needs help. We should not really be using much oak at all for anything, never mind creating a fuel standard dependant on it. The whole pellet fuel market has really been driven by the timber industry, for obvious reasons it turns their once costly waste into a highly valuable product. However we need to be smarter than this and use more biomass resources which can be grown with one season, not hundreds of years. At PelHeat we focus on the use of any biomass waste or any biomass which can be grown quickly and not impact on food crops. For instance a good source of biomass waste for fuel pellet production is the waste from food crops. This helps make food crops more profitable and means more land can be used for food and fuel at the same time, without the two competing. This is where the future of pellet fuel really is. The best biomass energy crop you can use for pellet fuel is hemp. Hemp has over thirty thousand uses and fuel is just one of them. However its mainly the waste from hemp processing where pellet production can really benefit. Please click below to see a range of videos on making pellets from wood and biomass. We produce all our pellet presses here in the UK using the highest quality materials. |
