Using Corn Stover And Stalks In The Pellet Mill

You may have come across corn stoves while looking into alternative heating solutions. Corn stoves use actual corn as the fuel source. There are onions that this is immoral to use a food substance for fuel while many people in the world are starving. However no one would argue that using the waste from growing corn in the pellet mill would not be a good thing. If we use the waste streams from growing corn and turn it into a valuable asset is has several benefits. First the farmer can process this waste on his farm in a pellet mill and generate an additional income from the crop while producing free fuel for his own energy needs. The other benefits are that as a corn crop would generate two incomes the cost of corn its self may potentially drop due to competition. This would help tackle the global food crisis as it would lower the cost of corn.

Its also important to remember that this could generate a whole new sector of employment with local people running local pellet mills making fuel pellets for the local area. Corn stover pellets actually produce less ash and are less corrosive than many other biomass pellets such as those made from straw and hay. The corn stove would be processed the same as most other biomass materials. Thankfully at the time of harvest the corn stover will be very dry and will not require additional drying before the material can be used in the pellet mill. First the material will b collected from the field, probably baled to make the transportation as easy as possible. The material will then be fed through a hammer mill to produce small particles. Its now ready for the pellet mill. Corn stover has a lower density than wood, and therefore the pellet mill should achieve a good productivity.
