What To Expect For Pellet Mill Productivity

Before you can even consider purchasing a pellet mill you need to work out what productivity per hour you require. You need to evaluate how much resources are available to you and how quickly you need to process them in to pellets.

You need to look how big your market is and try to match supply to demand. Once you have decided what amount of pellets you need to produce in say a month or a year, you then need to calculate shift patterns. Will you be producing pellets on a 9-5 basis or will you be looking for longer production runs, potentially a 24/7 operation. The running time of the pellet mill obviously effects what productivity per hour you require. If you do the calculations on a 24/7 operation and then scale the pellet mill to your current pellet demand predictions there will be no room for expansion. However if you choose a pellet mill with a higher capacity at first you maybe operating the pellet mill a few hours a day. Then as demand grows you can increase the production hours to meet increase in demand quickly. In several cases we have designed pellet plants where they are designed to take more pellet mills in the future if demand grows. The smallest pellet mill we produce is shown operating in the video link below. Taking the pellet mill above as an example it has a productivity range of between 20-100 kgs per hour. This is a large range and the reason for this is the pellet mill can process a large range of materials, but each material is different. For instance a animal feed pellet will have a much lower density than a wood pellet. Therefore it is much easier to have a higher productivity per hour with animal feed. Other biomass materials fall between the two. The press can operate from a three phase or single phase electrical supply. It is the most automated small pellet machine on the market today.
