Wood Pellet Machines

Wood pellet production is growing on both a large and small scale to meet the growing global demand for wood pellet fuels. The growth of the wood pellet market is driven by the cost advantage of pellets compared to most other fuels, and the green credentials of wood pellets in helping to lower carbon emissions. Therefore the needs for wood pellets is only set to continue, which also means more wood pellet machines are required globally to meet this demand.

Pellet Machine and Wood Pellet Machines

General perceptions of pellet machines and how wood pellet machines operate in many cases is inaccurate, also there is a general misconception that all pellet machines are the same, and each can process any raw material. The facts are that pellet machines are sensitive pieces of equipment, and to perform efficiently and productively they require a raw material which suits their abilities. For example, the pellet machine was not original based on wood pellet fuel production, but the animal feed pellet market. Transporting loose animal feed was a real issue, and providing the animals with right blend of nutrients, vitamins and energy was very difficult. By mixing all the feed ingredients together and then compressing them into pellets brought several advantages. Firstly transportation costs were significantly reduced, as much more feed could be placed in one wagon. also the feed could be measured accurately each day.

Wood pellet fuel production has only really taken off in the last 15 years, where animal feed pellet production has been around for over a hundred years. There is therefore a large number of animal feed pellet machines, however many of these machines cannot be used to process wood into pellet form. The reasons for this is difference in material density between animal feed and wood. Wood is a much denser material, and also to compress into pellet form requires higher temperatures. Many animal feed pellet mills simply do not generate sufficient force to compress the wood through the die template. They are simply underpowered to compress wood, and the gearing of the machines is too high for wood pellet compression.

Pellet Mill Equipment and Processing

Purchasing the right equipment to process the correct material is crucial. While there maybe animal feed pellet mills which could potentially be used to process wood pellets, you also have to consider sourcing spare and consumable parts. The pellet machines main consumable parts are the die and roller shells. The wear rate changes depending on the material been processed, and the alloy used to produce the parts.

How To Make Wood Pellets and Skills

Learning how to make wood pellets is skill which more and more people wish to learn. Some wish to learn the skills in order to be more energy independent while other do intend to start pellet fuel distribution centres. Understanding the specific criteria that a material requires to produce a quality fuel pellet which can demand the best prices is crucial before any equipment is actually purchased. Areas such as particle size, moisture content and temperature.
