Learn About Quality Wood Pellet Manufacturing
The process of wood pellet manufacturing has grown in popularity significantly over recent years and this growth trend continues. Wood pellet manufacturing secures a lot of support due to the fact it addresses several important issues at the same time.
For example, much of the wood residue used for wood pellet production is a waste by-product. Producing wood pellets saves this material from going to landfill, which is what used to happen and it also cost a lot to do so. It therefore takes a costly waste material and transforms it into a valuable commodity. Wood pellets can also help to fill the gap in energy supply that is needed due to the need to reduce our consumption and reliance on fossil fuels. No whether you personally believe in climate change or not is irrelevant. Demand for fossil fuels due to global population increase is making fossil fuels unaffordable. Therefore the need for alternative energy sources is important purely on the basis of energy independence, never mind carbon emissions and climate change. Wood pellet manufacturing and other forms of fuel pellet production can help to form a new generation of energy products, including wind, solar, geothermal and many others.
Wood Pellet Plants and Pellet Production
So what is required in the wood pellet production process, well firstly it depends on the chosen raw material. The first point is particle size reduction, this could mean turning logs into chips and then turning the chips into a fine dust ready for the pellet mill. Post size reduction the moisture content of the particles must be monitored. If the particles have a moisture content over 15% then a drying solution will be required. Depending on where the wood was sourced from will give a good indication if drying will be required. For example, if the wood is sourced from kiln dried timber processing drying will not be required as the moisture content will be well below the 15% required. However, if you look at virgin timber the picture is completely different. Here you can easily be looking at moisture contents of around 50%, and drying will definitely be required. The cost of drying can also be expensive. Therefore sourcing a material which is either free or has a low value is crucial to making the pellet production plant profitable in to the future.
Wood Pellets Cost and Premium Pellets
A key part of profitability is obviously what price you can get for the finished pellets. The highest priced pellets are those of premium grade, however the sawdust used to produce these pellets is in high demand and therefore you are unlikely to be able to source this raw material for free. The free wood resources can be produced into fuel pellets however there will be less demand for these pellets, and they will also demand and lower price. Please click below.
